Our goals

Picture
The foundation Greek Cat Rescue (Dutch: Kattenhulp Griekenland)  works together with two other organizations to start with.
These are: Nine Lives Greece (www.ninelivesgreece.com)  and Animal  Care Samos  (www.animalcaresamos.com)
At first, we want to help the many stray cats on the  Greek island of Samos. The numbers of stray cats and kittens are here, as well as in most  other parts of Greece, very high, and run into many thousands.
We support the association Animal Care Samos in helping the stray cats.
Possibilities are limited till now for Animal Care Samos, because of lack of means, to do what is necessary to help, while the animals are in great need.

Sterilisations

The first and most important  goal of Foundation Help for the Cats of Greece, is to organize sterilization
campaigns.
Only this way, the animal suffering can decrease, as a result of  less kittens and cats that are being born with no
chance of (a good) life at  all.
Only this way the endless circle can end, and the cats that have been helped have a much better chance to remain
healthier, to be cared for, etc.

For 10 euro's we can sterilize a female cat! For 5 euro's we can castrate a male cat!

Build a shelter for cats on Samos

Another very important of our goals is, that we want to realize a shelter for cats on Samos, where sick, weak and/or injured cats and kittens and orphaned kittens can be cared for and be cured. (pictures below; sick cat and kittens on Samos 2011...)
We need a lot of money for this goal! Approximately 25.000 euro's to make it possible.
You can help us! Click here it you want to make a donation for this much needed project. Please adjust: shelter to you donation.

Our goals in short:
- Organisation of sterilization/castration campaigns together with Nine Lives Greece and Animal Care Samos on Samos.
- Raise funds to make necessary veterinarian help possible for sick or injured animals.
- Raise funds to make a cat shelter possible on the island of Samos, so that sick and/or injured cats and kittens can stay here and
been taken care of, until recovered.
Further:
- Increase awareness of the suffering of the stray cats by the local people through education and show the ways to prevent this suffering.
- Seek and stimulate cooperation with local authorities and local people.
- Adoption of animals in individual cases when they have no chance of survival on site or suffer there severely.

Why cats in Greece need our help

Picture
Millions of cats and kittens suffer of starvation and hunger, especially in wintertime..
To little food, causes the cats to become weak and ill, as a result many don't survive long..

Picture right: mother cat and her kitten begging for food.

Also many cats and kittens  are desperately looking for a safe and warm place, to care for their kittens and give shelter against the rain, the wind and the cold.

Mostly, far too many kittens are being born; there is not enough food and care available for all of them; one mother cat and her offspring can become 420.000 cats in seven years!

This is why sterilisation is crucial to help the cats and stop the ongoing circle of kittens being born, that have no chance at all for a healthy and long life..Thruth is, most kittens that are born each year die before their first year.

All creatures on earth feel like we feel,
endeavor for happiness like we do.
They love, suffer and die like we do.
All  beings in distress have equal rights for protection.
Not to cause our humble  brothers pain is our
                                                                                            commitment to the animals.
But to stop there is not  enough.
We have a higher mission to serve them whenever they need us."
